Being Cheap is Easy: Gifts That Give Hope: Heart of Haiti at Macy's!

Gifts That Give Hope: Heart of Haiti at Macy's!

June 12, 2015

Summer is the time for gatherings--weddings, showers, BBQs and birthday parties.  Many people are searching for meaningful gifts; not your average home decor.  The Heart of Haiti line at Macy's offers handcrafted items by Haitian artists.  The items are available in 25 stores across the country and online.  Since each item is handmade, they are all unique.  I'm really drawn to the bright colors and unique pieces they offer.  The metal is made from oil drums which they pound down and stain--watch the video below, it's hard work that these artist put into this!

The vases are made from papier mache and have a glass insert.  The vibrant colors are perfect for summer flowers.

While other organizations have come and gone, Macy’s has remained in Haiti, deepening their commitment to the Trade Not Aid initiative.  Macy’s joined forces with the Clinton Bush Haiti fund shortly after the devastating earthquake in January 2010 and developed a product line for sale at in their stores which helps support over 550 artisans and their families. All items are handcrafted by local artists in Croix des Bouquets and they receive a portion of the proceeds.

Our Jonas Sunflower Metal Lantern will be a perfect addition for our 4th of July party.  The other night, I put a citronella candle inside and it cast a perfect light on our patio table. The details of the metal work are amazing--it's hard to believe they were made by hand!  I can't wait to pair it with some colorful placemats and my Spanish inspired plates.  The best part of this Heart of Haiti line is how affordable it is--many items are under $50!

All sales of these products help out the artist AND their extended family.  The orders they receive provide sustainable income for artists and their families. To stay connected you can follow on Facebook and Twitter.

Which Heart of Haiti products would you like to gift or purchase for your next party?
