Being Cheap is Easy: 01/01/2012 - 02/01/2012

Want a freebie?

January 27, 2012

Who doesn't love chocolate?  Especially FREE chocolate!  I never used to crave sweets like I do now before I had my girls.  Maybe it's a motherhood thing.

SheSpeaks, a great freebie and information website, is sending out bags of Milk & Truffle Ghirardelli squares. Click here to find out if you can get some sent to your doorstep, plus some coupons!

Enjoy your weekend!  We are having a rockstar party for the twins' 3rd birthday.  I am going to try to make a guitar cake tonight...and not eat all of the batter.

Bzzz: a great site for freebies

January 24, 2012

You may know by now, I love free stuff...especially in the mail.  I can hear the mail truck from 5 houses away and I wait impatiently for him to drive off so I can grab the mail.  BzzAgent is by far one of my favorite.  They send out great freebies and coupons for you to hand out to your friends.  Usually you get a full sized sample to try, then you Buzz about it on Twitter or Facebook.  So easy!

You just take some quick (less than 5 minutes) profile surveys and they will email you with any campaigns you might be eligible for.  They can be for anything from makeup to household cleaners.  The more items you sample, the more invites you get.

Sign up for free here!

No, I am not paid to rave about this, I just love it so much.

Mmmm Monday: Pizza-dillas

January 23, 2012

This recipe is a new creation in our household over the past week.  It was actually Olivia who came up with it (sort of...) when she wanted a pizza and a quesadilla.  I am sure this has been done before, but it's a new idea to us!

I love having quick and easy meals for the girls that are actually healthy as well.  This takes about 5 minutes to make!  Serve with a side of fruits or veggies and you are all set!

Ingredients
  • Whole Wheat Pita
  • Pizza sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Your favorite pizza toppings
Step One: Slice the pita in half.  It can be a pain, it doesn't have to be perfect!
Step Two: Add sauce, favorite toppings and cheese.  This is a fun way to have the kids help in the kitchen too!
Step Three: Throw it on the Foreman grill.  I spray the top with Pam for extra crunch.
Step Four: Voila!  It's done and ready to eat.  I just cut mine with some kitchen sheers.

I am thinking of making actual quesadillas with this method as well.  I love the crunch that you get with the pita.

What is your go-to kids meal?

...And the winner is!

Keep your eyes peeled for my next giveaway this weekend!

{GIVEAWAY!} So fresh and so clean!

January 12, 2012

In celebration of my birthday month (I will be 28 on January 16), I have two fun giveaways!  I have only done one other giveaway and it was a crash and burn, so let's try to make these a bit better!  Check back next week for the next freebie.

As I shared last week, Ricky and I workout at home.  I have been aiming for about 3-4 times a week, and actually it is going well.  I like to pop in a DVD after I put the girls to bed.  The downfall of any type of workout, gym or at home, is the stinky, sweaty clothes.  Nothing is worse than sweaty boy clothes (sorry Ricky!).

Want 20% off a sports bra?  Go here!

Here's where the giveaway comes into play.  I have been given the opportunity to give one of my lucky readers a FREE bottle of Purex Crystals and a sports bra by Jockey.  The two brands have teamed up to help eliminate the hassle of cleaning workout clothes.  Purex Crystals don't contain any oil and are better to use on all types of clothes.

I absolutely love the crystals.  Last spring when they were first introduced, I got about 10 bottles for free with coupons and we are STILL using them!  We do a ton of laundry around here and a bottle still lasts about a month.  Your clothes smell amazing for days after the wash, too.

To enter, leave a comment below on what your favorite workout song is now.  Random, I know, but I love to hear about what type of music people are listening to.

For additional entries (up to 3 entries per person!):
  • Follow me on Twitter: @beincheapiseasy
  • Tweet: I just entered @beincheapiseasy 's #purex giveaway at http://bit.ly/lCQxQy
For each action, leave a separate comment and you will be entered!   The winner will be drawn next Wednesday, Jan 18!  Spread the word!  If the winner does not respond by Friday, January 20, I will draw again.

Going back to my last post, I am trying to be a bit healthier this year.  It's not like we eat horribly, but the holidays took a toll on our eating habits.

I love to have a few frozen meals on hand for quick lunches or dinner when Ricky is working.  There is a great coupon on Facebook now, if you "like" Smart Ones.

If you haven't tried their dessert cups, you must!  The cookie dough and peanut butter cup ice cream cups are soo good.  They are great for a sweet tooth!

Go now, I'm sure this one will quickly!  If you don't have ink in your printer, they can mail you a coupon too!

UPDATE 1/6: They are going to be on sale 5/$9 next week at Meijer.  Great way to use up that coupon!

Saving money on at-home workouts

Since it is a new year, I do have some goals.  The major thing I would like to do is to try to fit in more workouts into my week.  My goal is to try to workout 4 times a week.  With the 3 little ones, it really isn't logical to join a gym (or quite in our budget), so we do workouts at home.  Ricky is super into fitness, so he does P90X and all of that hardcore junk.  If you know me, that is a bit above my level of...um...athleticism.  I was the girl who tried every sport, but I am a bit too clumsy and uncoordinated.  Hey, at least I tried!

I got a Wii Fit last fall on Craigslist and I love it.  If you are considering one, definitely check there first...there are a ton posted!  I got mine for $30 and it was practically brand new, only used twice.  The Wii fit is great for the weigh-ins and simple workouts, but I want to step it up a bit.  Instead of buying a bunch of DVDs and wasting money, I make sure to check them out from the library and try them first.  I am so glad I went this route because there are a ton of really, REALLY bad DVDs out there!  Plus, it is nice to have a variety in workouts.

Here are some of my favorites right now (I'm going on a Biggest Loser trainer kick):
  • Bob Harper's Inside Out Method DVDs
    • These are very hard at first, but so worth it.  After you will feel great (and sore).  Plus you don't need a bunch of extra equipment.  There are 2 workouts on each DVD, the first is 60 minutes (very tough!) and the other is 20 minutes.
    • My favorite:

  •  Jillian Michaels' Ripped in 30
    • This is nice because its only 30 minutes and it is intense.

There are some great fitness deals this week because of the New Year.  In the coming weeks, look for specials and coupons on healthier food also.
  • Aldi has a 3-piece kettleball set for $24.  This price is amazing and they are very nicely made!  They also have fitness balls for $6.
  • Barnes & Noble has a special on most DVDs, Buy 2/Get 1 Free. There is free shipping over $25, too.  You don't need a code, just add 3 to your cart.  You may even be able to pick them up in your store, if they are in stock.  If you want to own your own DVDs, I would look here or on Amazon.
  • Meijer has some great prices on DVDs and weights.  Also, Special K and other healthier items are marked down.
I have found that most DVDs require small hand weights or a kettleball.  Whenever they ask you to use a mat, I either use Ricky's or just a towel.  You can get a great workout in the comfort of your home for very cheap!  You can pick up hand weights and have your own home gym for under $20.

Wish me luck on my progress...I'll try to keep you updated!

How do you find time to get your workouts in?

Don't forget about Swagbucks!

January 04, 2012

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!  I am finally caught up on my sleep and now we move into crazy birthday month.  Everyone in our family has a birthday (except Miss G) within 3 weeks of each other.  Whoa!

I'm sure you have already heard how great Swagbucks is, but I thought I would remind my new readers! Basically when you search the web, you can use this website and get points.  The points add up and you can cash them in for gift cards.  Since the search is powered by Google, it's very reliable.

There are other ways you can earn from the website: printing coupons, taking surveys and buying daily deals.  I will be honest, the points don't always add up super fast, but I have gotten quite a few free gift cards.  Well worth making it your home page.  I do tons of searches daily and this is always my main search engine.

Here's the link once again. Once you have joined, spread the word and earn points!

Happy Searching!
