Step One: Where do you find coupons?

March 22, 2010

Hello again! I think the first step is to start with the basics. The question "Where do you find coupons?" seems pretty simple, but there is a lot available online that people are not aware of. Most high value coupons are found online, not in Sunday newspapers. Although it may seem as if printing off coupons would be more expensive, since so much ink is used, but really it is a great way to go. Here are a few tips to get started.

  1. I have a second email account for the "junk" email you may get from signing up on company websites. Its nice to keep your personal email clutter free. I recommend signing up on any company websites for products you use everyday. This would include Kraft, Proctor & Gamble, etc. If you are a Mom with babies, Huggies and Pampers are some of the first great websites to sign up on, but I will get more into that later.
  2. Sunday papers are still great sources for coupons. If you have a Dollar Tree near you, you can get them for only $1 on Sundays (that is half the price of our paper). Our paper is nice enough to say how much coupon savings is inside, but in general I purchase 5 papers. It seems excessive, but you can save a ton in groceries for that $5 price! The first Sunday of each month has a ton of great beauty and household coupons.
  3. As for coupon websites, I stick with Redplum, Coupons.com, Smartsource and Couponbug. You will find that there will be many duplicate coupons on these sites, but some have coupons exclusive to their website. The general rule is that you can print out 2 of each coupon listed.
Okay, that should be enough information to get you started. There are many ways to organize coupons. Just make sure you put them in something where you can easily take them with you and make sure you keep them in order! You don't want to spend your whole shopping trip flipping through your coupons trying to find the ones you want to use. Remember, just because you have a coupon, does not mean you have to use it. Sometimes there are better deals out there. Your best bet is to use the coupon with a sale. This is how I usually get a lot of free products.

Welcome!

Hello! Most people reading this will be friends and family, until I get some followers (fingers crossed!). As I said in the description, I am 26 and a mother of twins! I love to save money and I really want to show how easy it is. There are tons of blogs out there which are doing the same thing as I am trying, but I feel like there is a void of people actually starting with the basics. Please leave feedback and follow me! I am going to try to invest some time into this for everyone out there who wants to save a couple of bucks the easy way. I promise, you don't have to feel like an old Grandma using coupons!

Thank you for reading!

Send me any questions you may have! I am going to try to have this up and running ASAP.

XOXO!
