Quick tip: how to save on yogurt cups

May 30, 2012

I don't know if your kids are as crazy as mine, but the twins like to have their food compartmentalized.  I was buying those "kid friendly" yogurt cups for a while and I stopped one day and thought about how much money I was wasting.  Per ounce, it is MUCH cheaper to buy the big tubs. Did you know that the shelf price tag for any food item will tell you the price per ounce?  I love it!

Unless there is a crazy deal on the cups with coupons, I will only buy the 32 oz tubs now.  We can go through 2-3 per week!

I just saved a few cups from other snacks and now I use those.  The snack cups fit perfectly on plates and my crazy kids are happy!  One less battle...these days we have many.  Toddlers are quite opinionated!

Side note: we do this with a lot of other snacks as well.  We get large containers of applesauce from Costco, so the cups are perfect!  Also, buy boxes of Jell-O and pudding instead of the handy cups.  That can save you ton when you consider the cups are $2.50+ for 6 and the $0.59 box makes at least 8!

Chao for now!

Quick tip: How to score cheap paint

May 11, 2012

We moved into our house in September and we really had no game plan on how to decorate.  All of the walls were stark white and boring.  After a few trips to Lowes, I realized I am obsessed with looking at paint color samples.  So fun!  Once we got a general idea of the color choices we wanted, I started to stalk the "whoopsie paint" section each trip we made to the store.  Each home store has a section of markdown paint.  Sometimes you will find one gallon, sometimes you can find five.  It's a very random selection.

Somehow, we have managed to find every paint color we were looking for in the $5 gallon paints.  How crazy is that?!  For our kitchen, we mixed two similar colors and it turned out fantastic.

This can save you so much money!  We painted our living room with super tall ceilings for $10. Only downside is you have to play a waiting game.  To us, it didn't really matter how quickly we painted so it worked out perfectly.  Another perk to looking in this section is that you can find a new color choice you wouldn't have even thought of.

If you aren't sure quite where to look, check by the paint mixing area or ask.  That's what they are there for!

Do you have any home decorating tips you would like to share?

Confessions of a slight hoarder {GIVEAWAY}

May 10, 2012

JAWS: Just Add Water.  Can't find it around you? Use the code CLEAN for free shipping!
I am finally getting around to my spring cleaning.  Since I am planning on a garage sale this summer, I am trying to sort through years of junk.  Ricky thinks I am a slight hoarder.  I beg to differ, of course.  I only keep things that I could possibly, most likely use in the somewhat near future.  Totally not a hoarder... Plus he still has t-shirts and jerseys from high school which was *ahem* over 10 years ago.  Having the girls doesn't help.  Kids have so many clothes and toys, it's crazy!  So, long story short, I am finally getting around to giving the house a good spring cleaning.

Another thing you may want to know about me is that I really hate cleaning.  I don't mind doing the laundry, but I hate putting it all away.  Same with dishes.  I squeak by doing only the absolutely necessary until Ricky gets fed up enough to clean.  Whoops, my gig is up. Shhh, don't tell Ricky.  In my defense, it is somewhat pointless to try to keep the house spotless with the girls.  They get everything messy in less than 5 minutes.

Anything to make cleaning easier is a big perk for me.  Environmentally friendly is also a big plus now that I have the three little ladies running around.  I don't want to have to worry about something horrible getting into their system! When I was approached by JAWs to review their product (in February...I even procrastinate about writing about cleaning!), I was super excited.

What is JAWs?  It stands for Just Add Water.  I love the product and I love that it is made in the area (Ohio).  I like to support the small companies as much as I can.

The whole concept is very simple: you get a cool little topper and an empty bottle.  Fill the bottle with water to the line and then add the capsule.  Super easy and I love that you can refill the bottle!  They sent me this wonderful box with 4 different cleaners, along with refills.  There is enough for almost a year!

What types of products do they have?
  • Disinfectant/Degreaser (our favorite!)
  • Glass Cleaner
  • Multipurpose
  • Bathroom
Each is sold for around $5 and you get 2 refills!  Each bottle lasts at least 2 months.

Unfortunately, these products aren't sold (YET) on our side of the state here in Michigan, but they are sold through Amazon and their website.  Right now they have free shipping if you use the code CLEAN.

Here's the best part.  One lucky reader will win the same great kit I received.  You get all 4 cleaners and refills...enough for almost a year of cleaning!  Woohoo!

Copy-Kids: fun DVD for kids {GIVEAWAY!}

May 03, 2012

Copy-Kids
I love anything that promotes kids eating well.  While Dora or Elmo can tell kids to eat their veggies, I think it is better when they can actually see kids their age doing so.

Copy-Kids just launched their first DVD in January: "Fruits and Vegetables".  They believe that you can encourage kids to learn good habits by copying other children.  The videos are produced for children 6 months to 5 years.

I got the DVD in the mail and immediately Maddie wanted to watch it.  The DVD categorizes into 12 different sections, each focusing on one food item for about 5-6 minutes.  The entire movie consists of kids of different age ranges eating food.

To be honest, I was super bored watching this.  This is a good one to put in while you are folding laundry.  But I'm sure the girls would be super bored watching Real Housewives. The girls loved it though!  They laughed at the girls and boys and they were talking to them like friends.  It was very interesting!  Although they already love to eat well, this movie has made them more excited to try veggies they did not like so much before.

Every morning, Maddie goes to the DVD closet and gets Copy-Kids out.  I am relieved because she is going through a Strawberry Shortcake phase and this is much better!  The twins love to decide which fruit or vegetable section to watch.

Do you want a copy of Copy-Kids for your family?  You can win one here!!

Use the rafflecopter below and the winner will be chosen next Wednesday!  (May 9)
