Last week, I had a wonderful opportunity to head over to the East side of the state to check out the new Granite City location in Northville, MI. Normally, I wouldn't travel so far for food but I wanted to see my friend Lauren (her blog: Mrs. Weber's Neighborhood shares tons of Michigan activities and family fun!) and meet some other fellow bloggers.
Back in 2007, I worked at Granite City in Madison and I absolutely love their food and drinks. That seems like AGES...anything pre-kids seems like another lifetime ago. I was very interested to see how they have grown and changed since I worked there.
WHAT TO EXPECT (Prices, etc)
The prices have a range for everyone. You can have an expensive ribeye or a flatbread and no matter what, you'll be pleased since everything is made from scratch. The detail they put into their food is quite amazing. If you're looking for a burger or sandwich, expect to pay between $9-14. Entrees start at $13+. The portions are huge and filling. We sampled most of the menu and it was really hard to pick my favorite! The menu has many unique items such as braised bison or pulled pork served on a corn and jalapeno waffle. I would recommend Granite City for a date night or a special birthday dinner.
Lunch is one of their specialties, also. You can have your food in less than 10 minutes and there are plenty options, between soups, salads and sandwiches. All for $9 or less! The Ale + Cheddar soup with rye croutons is a staple that I love. Also the Clam Chowder on Friday is perfection.
While it's a brewery, I would say it's quite kid friendly. The kids menu starts at $4.95 and includes chicken bites, salmon, flatbread pizzas and more. It's much different than your typical fried-everything kids menu. I was very impressed! Also: there is a family bathroom. As a Mom of 3, I truly appreciate those thoughtful touches!
Sunday Brunch is a must, in my eyes. It's $19.95 per person, but it's worth every penny. Even when working there years ago, Ricky and I would save up to go to brunch at least 2-3 times a year. The prime rib and cheesy hash browns alone are enough of a draw!
The Drinks
If you're not a frequent beer drinker, be sure to ask for the flight. You can sample everything they have to offer. There are 4 mainstays: The Northern (Light American Lager), Broad Axe (Stout), The Duke (IPA) and The Bennie (German Bock), plus they have frequent seasonal picks. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask the bartender. They're there to help you! Aside from their own brews, they also feature local drafts as well.
The cocktail menu is also quite tasty--the margarita was perfect with it's splash of orange juice. I also really loved the 150 calorie Raspberry Delight--muddled fresh berries made it super refreshing. Enoy a Happy Hour Menu which features drink specials from 4-7 and 9-close Monday-Friday!
Have a big party coming up? Consider the large areas at Granite City. I really loved that they weren't too far away from the vibe of the restaurant, yet you are set far enough away to enjoy the company of the people with you. During the tour, they suggested having bachelor/bachelorette parties in the restaurant, with brewery tours and tasty food! How fun would that be?
I have a $25 Gift Card to give to one of my readers so they can check out Granite City for themselves! The Northville, MI location opens Wednesday (April 8th)! I have my fingers crossed they will bring GC west to the Grand Rapids area. There is also a location in Novi, MI.
